In my earlier article Organic Shaving Cream - 3 Reasons Why You Need To Throw Out Your Shaving Cream, I asserted that organic shaving cream works better, is better for you, and is actually less expensive than regular shaving cream.

I wanted to show you a couple of organic shaving cream products and shaving cream "systems" that I have used. I have very sensitive skin, and previously would get ingrown hairs anytime I shaved. Some gels and creams were better than others, but none of the typical "grocery store" brands ever alleviated the problem.

I had moderate to complete success with each of these three products. The Aubrey Organics "Mens Stock Shaving System" is the one I now use daily because it doesn't irritate my skin and I no longer get razor burn / bumps, or ingrown hairs.

Organic Shaving Creams and Shaving Systems

Aubrey Organics delivers the best shave system I have ever used. Following well tested convention wisdom, the Aubrey Organics "Mens Stock Shaving System" is a 3 step system that combines a facial scrub, organic shaving cream, and organic aftershave.

According to Aubrey Organics, the Mens Stock Shaving System:

  • Guarantee you a cool, comfortable shave in 3 simple steps
  • Protect your face from razor burn and irritation with flaxseed lignans—clinically proven to balance oil production and reduce skin bumps
  • Available in 3 great natural scents—Spice Island, North Woods & City Rhythms
Ingredients:
  • Coconut Fatty Acid Cream Base, Witch Hazel (natural herbal extract)
  • Castile Soap, Essential Oil Blend (Bay Rum, Patchouli, Black Pepper, Nutmeg, Vetiver)
  • Organic Eucalyptus Oil, Camphor Oil, Organic Avocado Oil, Wheat Germ Oil
  • Ginseng Extract, Menthol Oil, Organic Rosemary Oil, Organic Sage Oil, Organic Aloe Vera
  • Aubrey's Preservative (Citrus Seed Extract, Vitamins A, C and E).

Miessence Shaving Gel (Organic) is "a light, lubricating gel formulated with organic aloe vera for sensitive or irritated skin. Provides good razor-slip for a close, smooth shave with organic safflower and guar. Organic emollients protect against razor-burn, nicks and cuts whilst softening and soothing the skin. For all skins types."

This gel is made with organic ingredients specifically formulated to benefit the skin, it may feel differently on your face than other products you've used before. We’ve found that by the end of the bottle, we not only like the feel of the product, but more importantly, the look and feel of our skin. You may even find that you go through a period of detox as your skin cleanses and returns to its natural state.

A little goes a long way.

Tom's of Maine Natural Conditioning Shaving cream "is formulated with pure vegetable ingredients to provide skin conditioning and comfort while shaving. Coconut and olive oils protect and condition the skin and possess excellent lubrication qualities."

This product is not a truly organic shaving cream, but does use "natural ingredients" that based on my research lack the harmful and carcinogenic effects found in regular shave creams. It is by far the least expensive of the three. For these reasons, I have chosen to include Tom's of Maine Natural Condition Shaving Cream in this review

I have found the key to making this shaving cream work to its full potential is to use a shaving mug and a brush to lather and apply it to your face. In fact, I'm not the only one who found this to be true; there are many comments posted on the Toms of Maine website stating this same opinion.
